In the past Css was used soley to change size, color, width, height, and position. Today Css3 can reposition an html element many times with a click and then rotate it. Javascript can play video in the browser without Flash.
Today we use HTML5 video and audio tags along with Javascript. Apple does not use flash at all in it's browser. Be prepared to use javascript in your video & audio work because Flash is not supported by Adobe. Expect to get a warning to uninstall flash should you use Flash. However there are many flash players in use. Here's an example of javascript and css3 below.
